4th lake in Herkimer County

Herkimer

The Herkimer County area, a region rich in history and tradition located at the foothills of the Adirondacks, offers four seasons of recreation. It's named after General Nicholas Herkimer who died in the late 1700s after taking part in the Battle of Oriskany during the Revolutionary War. The northern part of the county is situated in the Adirondack Park, a publicly protected area in the northeast that's not only the largest park and the largest state-level protected area in the United States, but also the largest National Historic Landmark. The Mohawk River flows across the south part of the county. A big draw for travelers to the area is Old Forge, a cozy town that exudes that laid back, outdoorsy "Adirondack feeling" while simultaneously focusing on family fun with amusement parks and museums.
